So, my husband and I got a bengal offered to us for free. The only catch is that I have rats- will the rats be afraid of the bengal? They're in cages, would it be ok if i put the cat away when i took the rats out? Will the bengal care about the rats? I don't know how predatory they are, I've been googling, but I can't find anything on this. Any help would be great. Is this just a bad idea?

I've had rats and bengals at the same time without a problem. It really depends on the personality of each animal.

I would put the rat cage in a place that the cat can't get to. Mine was on my dresser, which took up almost the wholed dresser space, plus food, so there was no where for my cats to jump up.

In terms of predatoriness, I've got a girl bengal that would rather run away from anything moving than attack it, her mom who is rather indifferent, and her dad who would be more likely to try and attack given the opportunity.

My rat was smart enough to be afraid of cats (as opposed to my chinchilla who doesn't get that cat = potential death), so just take your rats out when the cats are in a different room or locked up.

Hope that helps. :)
